NAS Scholarships ensure exceptional talent is nurtured and artistic potential is realised. They break down barriers to higher education and provide students with vital financial support to complete their studies.

Scholarships

The NAS First Peoples Scholarship aims to provide young, aspiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists the opportunity to pursue their studies under the guidance of some of Australia’s most accomplished artists. 

The scholarship covers the full tuition fees for a student entering the Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) program.

The Hawkesbury Art Prize aims to provide a young, aspiring artist from Greater Western Sydney with the opportunity to pursue their studies under the guidance of some of Australia’s most accomplished artists. 

The scholarship covers a stipend of $25,000 per calendar year for a student entering the Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) program.

The PIMCO BFA First Peoples Scholarship aims to provide young, aspiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists the opportunity to pursue their studies under the guidance of some of Australia’s most accomplished artists.

The National Art School (NAS) is now accepting applications for the 2026 Aboriginal Art Centre Internship program. 

Now in its thirteenth year, this internship program is made possible through the generous support of Sharon Toffler and Mark Tedeschi AM QC.

The Baxter Marr Scholarship is generously funded by Annabel Baxter and David Marr. It provides a stipend of $20,000 for a student completing the Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) (full-time) at the National Art School (NAS) in 2026. 

The recipient is intended to use the scholarship as a stipend to support living and study expenses.

The Perry Foundation Art Scholarship is generously funded by the R&J Perry Family Foundation. It provides a stipend of $20,000 for a student completing the Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) (full-time) at the National Art School (NAS). 

The recipient is intended to use the scholarship as a stipend to support living and study expenses.

An annual award of $10,000 in commemoration of Mark Henry Cain, an artist trained at Glasgow School of Art who relocated to Sydney in 1937. The Mark Henry Cain Memorial Scholarship supports an MFA student to travel for their artistic research for a period of 6 – 8 weeks in the UK (including England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland). The award is supported by a generous endowment made by a private donor.

The Alumni Advancement Scholarship is generously funded by Ian Neil SC. It provides a stipend of $35,000 for a student completing the Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) (full-time) at the National Art School (NAS) in 2026.

The East Sydney Doctors Scholarship is a generous opportunity funded by East Sydney Doctors, providing $5,000 to a postgraduate student at the National Art School. 

Funded by the Clitheroe Foundation, a generous scholarship of $20,000 to support a student pursuing postgraduate study at the National Art School. 

The Standish & Co Scholarship, generously supports a postgraduate student working in Photomedia and related practices, with a $5,000 prize, mentoring, and $5,000 print support to realise their works. 

Residencies

A six-month studio residency program in London for a recent National Art School graduate. 

With support from the Lansdowne Foundation, the Prudence MacLeod Prize supports an emerging Australian artist to undertake a six-month residency at Acme Studios, London. Acme Studios will provide work/​​live studio accommodation and a program of support and professional development for a NAS alumni artist. Resident artists are expected to contribute to the program and the artist community, and to deliver a small-scale public outcome at the end of the residency, with the support of Acme and within the budget allocated. 

This opportunity is designed to support an emerging artist at a vital time in their career, providing a step forward into an expanded, international context. The artist will live and work in London, one of the world’s great art cities, in a supportive artist community. This important opportunity will enable the artist to forge professional international contacts, explore London’s art world and rich cultural resources, and produce a new body of work. 

The recipient of this Prize will receive:

  • Return travel to London, arranged for the artist by NAS
  • Studio accommodation and workspace at Acme Studios for 6 months
  • Living stipend of $AUD3,500 per month for 6 months (total $AUD21,000)

A three-month studio residency at La Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris for a National Art School Graduate or Academic Staff Member.

A residency at the Onslow Storrier National Art School Paris Studio offers the opportunity of dedicated focus on your practice in one of the great centres of artistic excellence. The Onslow Storrier National Art School Paris Studio is located at La Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, and has been made possible through the generosity of Annette Onslow and Tim Storrier. 

The studio is located on the Right Bank in Rue de L’Hôtel de Ville in the 4th arrondissement overlooking the river Seine, near many commercial and public galleries and only a short walk to Notre Dame Cathedral. There are 270 studios that house artists, musicians and writers from around the world.

A three-month residency in an interdisciplinary research community.

This residency offers artists the opportunity to live and work in Rome for 3 months, in an interdisciplinary research community. The British School at Rome is a centre of interdisciplinary research excellence in the Mediterranean supporting the full range of arts, humanities and social sciences, and the residency has been made possible through the generosity of our donors, particularly Jennifer Dowling. The British School at Rome is just north of Rome’s historic centre in the Valle Giulia which separates the Parioli district from the Borghese Gardens. 

The successful applicant will receive studio accommodation (including meals) with the British School at Rome for a period of three months: April 7 – June 30 2026 and inclusion in the BSR’s annual fine art catalogue. 

A two-week international art camp in Singapore for a current National Art School MFA student.

The nineteenth edition of the renowned TROPICAL LAB, an international art camp for art academies and institutes, will take place from 17 July to 1 August 2025 at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore.

TROPICAL LAB is an intensive and highly engaging fourteen-day event, bringing together more than 20 student-artists from various art colleges and institutions around the world. TROPICAL LAB is a real and imaginative space for student artists to research, experiment and collaborate to create contemporary artworks, regardless of medium, method and approach.

The event will include workshops, talks and seminars guided by established international and Singaporean artists culminating in an exhibition curated by LASALLE’s curatorial division, Institute of Contemporary Art Singapore at LASALLE.

The recipient of this Prize will receive:

  • $1,000 towards airfares & transfers
  • Coverage of program registration fees
  • LASALLE will cover accommodation and local travel costs in Singapore. All participants will reside at a hotel arranged by the College on a twin sharing basis.
  • LASALLE will provide studio space, workshops, technical assistance as well as curatorial expertise.

Awards

The Lift Off Award, generously funded by private donors, will provide $20,000 to a promising graduating MFA candidate from the National Art School.

The successful recipient will be eligible to use the funding to undertake an artist residency, international travel, to establish a studio, purchase specialised equipment, mount an exhibition, a publication or any project that requires a lift off to support their burgeoning art practice.
