Degree Courses

The Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) is a three-year full-time course designed to develop the creative independence, knowledge, and experience required for a successful career as a practicing artist or arts sector professional. 

In first year, all students undertake core study in Observational and Experimental Drawing, and Studio Foundations, which introduces all key Studio Specialisations: Ceramics, Painting, Photomedia, Printmaking, and Sculpture. From second year, students specialise in one of these areas, undertaking focused studio-based study. 

The Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) is an intensive one-year course. 
Building on undergraduate study, the BFA(Hons) supports you to extend skills and develop an independent research project and deepen your knowledge of the contexts that shape contemporary art practice. 

The BFA(Hons) cohort is organised into small research groups led by an academic supervisor. Students are allocated according to common research interests, which may be material, methodological, conceptual, or theoretical. This approach supports you to follow your individual practice whilst maintaining a shared foundation for in-depth critique and interdisciplinary dialogue. 

The Doctor of Fine Art (DFA) is a three-year (full-time) or six-year (part-time) professional doctorate for practicing artists who wish to pursue specific research interests that focus on studio practice. DFA graduates contribute significant and new knowledge in the context of professional practice and have substantial experience of research principles and methodologies relevant to contemporary art practice. 

The DFA includes structured learning activities and independent supervised study. DFA supervision and assessment is designed to develop a sustained research practice and the ability to confidently engage in critical dialogue within contemporary fine art, academic, and professional contexts.
