ARTHUR BOYD: A LANDSCAPE IN CONFLICT

Tickets $15, students $12 (includes a drink on arrival)

Barry Pearce, Emeritus Curator of Australian Art, Art Gallery of NSW and curator of the exhibition Arthur Boyd: Landscape of the Soul, in conversation with Andrew Frost, independent arts writer, broadcaster and critic for The Guardian.

Barry Pearce and Andrew Frost discuss Arthur Boyd’s complex and often uneasy relationship to the landscape. From light-filled early scenes to tormented figures in the bush, Boyd used the landscape as a theatre for his deeper explorations – not merely topographic, but a psychic sense of place. Through landscape painting, Boyd revealed an internal terrain of light and dark, euphoria, delusion, conflict and torment. Pearce and Frost will reflect on the trajectory of one of Australia’s most important artists and consider how the experiences and influences in an artist’s life are incorporated into their work.
