William Potanin

William Potanin is a multidisciplinary artist based on Gadigal Land (Eora/Sydney). He completed a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) at the National Art School. Potanin’s practice explores the phenomenological relationship between the body, material, and space through found objects and assemblage sourced from construction sites and street waste. His works invite viewers into an embodied encounter with the physical conditions of the gallery, drawing attention to the infrastructures that surround, support, and mediate the experience of art. By repositioning discarded materials within systems of display, he examines how institutional frameworks recontextualise objects and reassign value. Potanin’s works are included in the collections of University of South Queensland, RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) and Curtain University.
