Sophie Sheppard

Sophie Sheppard is a Sydney/Dharug-based multidisciplinary artist with a background in ceramics. She currently attends The National Art School, where she is completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours). Using her work as a way to ponder and creatively respond to philosophical questions, Sheppard’s work interrogates systems of understanding, using her own interactions, multispecies relationships and observations to inform her own inclusive and empathetic worlding. Her research is spontaneous, hands-on and curious, intentionally evoking a sense of childlike wonder and humility and resulting in drawings, handwritten and typed notes, mounted ceramic beetles, materials and burnished models. Through spontaneous note-taking, journaling, sketching, and fieldwork, Sheppard promotes humble and respectful interactions with Allthings – humans and all other-than-humans.
