Leah Zhang

Leah Zhang (b. 2005) is an artist living and working on Bidjigal and Gadigal land. Zhang’s paintings are developed from personal photographs taken in China and Australia. She is interested in the atmospheres, memories and textures of a location, and how the instability of translation influences her sense of place. Her paintings aim to reimagine these static snapshots into a shifting and shimmering display of scenes, all compositionally off-kilter to navigate her misalignment with the backgrounds she is from. Zhang completed her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting at the National Art School (2025). Zhang has exhibited in many shows including Active at Alma Gallery (Sydney, 2026) and City Chaos at Goodspace (Sydney, 2025). She was selected as a finalist in the 9×5 Waverly Landscape Prize (2025) and has works held in many private collections.
