Harri Barnes

Harri Barnes is a photomedia artist working across digital and analog photography, and experimental materiality within prints. Barnes grew up on Gadigal Land, Sydney, and is currently completing a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) at the National Art School. The practice is observational. Recent work explores emotion as something that arises between people and the living world rather than inside one person, through photographs of trees in which hands, backs and necks meet bark. Printing monochrome images directly onto aluminium, so that each photograph darkens as it merges with the metal, Barnes considers the photograph as a record
of an encounter rather than a possession of the photographer. Barnes has exhibited in galleries and public spaces across Sydney, has work in private collections, and is the recipient of the Standish & Co. Scholarship, the Arts Matter Prize and the Research Practice Prize. Barnes was a finalist in the 2025 Hillend Analog Photography Festival.
