Dean O'Brien

Dean’s artworks investigate intuitive experiences of previously inhabited places that have been inherited from his ancestors. His research strives to prove that through the exploration of these experiences, particular locations can have the power and agency to influence contemporary lives. His studies represent sites through oil paintings and drawings derived from locations around the world where he has had first-hand experience. These places include Dorset in the south-west of England, Vikøyri in Norway and Blairsville in Pennsylvania, USA. This is an investigation into the phenomenology of place, where individuals may have unexplained feelings of longing, attraction or a connection to something otherworldly.
