Fiona Verity
Fiona Verity is a British-born Australian artist based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, on the lands of the Garigal people. Drawing is central to her practice, which spans drawing, printmaking, painting and textiles. Through walking, observation and tactile engagement with place, she investigates memory, women’s labour, care and the relationship between body and landscape.
Working across paper, cloth and stitch, Verity creates autobiographical works that move between abstraction and representation. Using charcoal, ink, paint, thread and found materials, she approaches drawing as an expanded practice, one that extends beyond the page into installation, artist books and handmade working objects. Slow, repetitive processes of walking, collecting, recording, and stitching become ways of thinking, allowing marks to accumulate as traces of time, movement and lived experience.
Her practice explores how everyday acts of care and making can hold personal and collective histories, inviting viewers to consider drawing as both a material and embodied way of knowing the world.
Verity is also the co-founder of the arts podcast Art W**k, which has featured conversations with hundreds of artists and creative practitioners since 2021.
