Amirah Rachwani
Amirah Rachwani is a Sydney-based artist and curator working across photography and moving image. Her practice examines the construction of gender and identity through visual culture, with a particular interest in femininity, trans representation, spectatorship and self-authorship. Drawing from art history, cinema and popular visual language, Rachwani uses self-portraiture and image-making to question who is permitted to look, who becomes the subject of the image, and who controls its meaning. Her work has been exhibited at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA), Airspace Projects, Schmick and Hurstville Museum and Gallery. She was a finalist in the Burwood Art Prize and is currently completing postgraduate study at the National Art School.
