NSW Visual Artists Emerging Fellowship 2022
Friday August 26 –
Sunday September 11
2022

Valued at $30,000, this Fellowship is offered by the NSW Government through Create NSW to enable a visual artist at the beginning of their career to undertake a self-directed program of professional development. With over 100 years of history, the Fellowship is a key exhibition for profiling the dynamism and breadth of emerging contemporary artistic practice in NSW. Now in its 23rd year at Artspace, it continues to define new generations of contemporary art practice for both artists and audiences. The NSW Visual Arts Emerging Fellowship is a significant visual arts Fellowship delivered in partnership with the NSW Government, through Create NSW and Artspace.

Each year Create NSW convenes an independent judging panel of esteemed colleagues to determine the finalists, whom Artspace acknowledges for engaging with insight and passion in assessing what was again a highly competitive round of proposals.

The NSW Visual Arts Emerging Fellowship will be awarded at the National Art School at the official launch of the exhibition featuring the works of the finalists on Wednesday 24th August.

The seven finalists – Eddie Abd, Chun Yin Rainbow Chan, Cindy Yuen-Zhe Chen, Joe Wilson and Chanelle Collier, Emily Parsons-Lord, and Genevieve Felix Reynolds – will have their work exhibited at the National Art School in Darlinghurst from Wednesday 24 August to Sunday 11 September. The finalists’ work will be assessed by a judging panel to determine who will be awarded the Fellowship in 2022.

Curators Elyse Goldfinch, Alexie Glass-Kantor and Scott Elliot will work closely with each of the artists through the development of the exhibition. Of the 7 artists, one finalist will be awarded the Fellowship at the opening night of the exhibition, Wednesday 24 August, 2022.

The National Art School acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the Traditional Owners on whose Country we meet, share and create. We pay our respects to all Gadigal Elders past and present. We celebrate the diversity, history, knowledge and creativity of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia.
