Featuring Simon Lobelson, John Jarratt, Rosa Miano, Elsen Price, Chloe Lankshear, Steve Kilbey, Geoffrey Gartner, Michaela Davies and more with MC James Valentine.

A smorgasbord sampling of new art and art music set in the National Art School’s historic Cell Block Theatre where female prisoners were once incarcerated.

Discover new sounds, premiere works, and performances by some of Sydney’s most respected art musicians, accompanied by installations of contemporary painting, millinery, and poetry readings. 

James Valentine from ABC radio will be your Master of Ceremonies.

Concession tickets available for students and APRA Members. Concessions must bring an ID card to redeem this ticket price. If your card cannot be produced on the night, you will be charged the full General Admission ticket price.

Composer Barton Price, Lyric Steve Kilbey, Simon Lobelson (Baritone), Geoffrey Gartner (Cello), Elsen Price (Double Bass), and Tony Leach (digital media)A mixed media work for music, 30-metre painted score and projection. A story of misplaced optimism, outrageous ego, and tragic aftermath. 

Rosa Miano and John Jarratt

Rosa’s spiritual oil paintings evoke deep emotions and intense feelings, which she describes in her own poetry, and will be read by legendary actor, director and producer John Jarratt.

Michaela Davies and Nick HalmagyiSonified earthquakes, tides and nuclear activity, performed live.

Perspective

Composer Barton PriceSoprano Chloe Lankshear, Baritone Simon Lobelson. A very small opera for two combatants. Inspired by the gulf in opinions that people form when considering the same situation or information, in particular, Trumpism and the murder of George Floyd.

Installations

Brenda Tye is a visual artist, the work she is exhibiting has been inspired by the practice of classical ballet.

Dr. Margo Barton

Installation that explores the ambiguous 3D sketch, the result of a decade long exploration into the dialogue between physical and digital creative spaces undertaken through the poetic and playful lens of millinery.

Steve Kilbey

Portraits, Gods, Goddesses by legendary solo artist and frontman for The Church.

About Barton Price

Composer and Painter, ARIA Hall of Fame.

Recent compositions performed by the Phoenix Quartet (Ukraine) and The New Zealand String Quartet. Barton always paints as part of his composition process, but for The Art Music Cafe, the painting has become the notation medium. The painting and the composition have become one work.
