NAS Art Forum | David Bielander

David Bielander’s works oscillate between jewellery objects, sculpture and collectible design and investigate questions about identity, affiliation, judgement and perception: how this is steered, and how one can shift it. His presentation will be about the potential of a small thing in connection to us: changing everything and nothing; about the handmade object and why there is still hope.

David Bielander, is a Swiss born artist, based in Munich, Germany. He trained as a goldsmith and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich graduating in 2002 as a Meisterschüler. He has since been teaching and exhibiting worldwide. The creation of iconic works like Lip (1999), Scampi (2007), Python (2011) or Cardboard (2015) makes him one of the key jewellery artists working today. He has won numerous awards including the Herbert Hoffmann Prize in 2010, the Francoise van den Bosch Award in 2012 and the Swiss Grand Prix Design in 2017. His works can be found in public collections across Europe, the US, Asia and Australia.

Art Forum

The NAS Art Forum is a weekly public lecture intended to enrich the school community with contributions by guest speakers on a broad range of subjects considered to be of interest to NAS staff, students and the public.

Previous speakers have included notable art industry professionals on subjects covering visual arts, cultural theory and humanities.

NAS Forum lectures are held Wednesday lunchtime from 12.45 – 1.30pm during teaching weeks.
