Colin Lanceley: Earthly Delights is a new major exhibition celebrating NAS alumnus, teacher and leader Colin Lanceley (1938 – 2015), a modernist trailblazer who believed in celebrating the joyous qualities of life in his vibrant, three-dimensional art.

When Colin first arrived at the National Art School as a student in the 1950s, against the wishes of his family, he described it as the opening of my life”. Colin lived overseas in the 1960s and 70s, developing his vigorous and adventurous practice. In the 1980s Colin returned to Australia and began teaching at NAS, then in the 1990s, as Chairman of the Advisory Board, helped write a new chapter for the School as an independent tertiary institution, ensuring teachers and lecturers were accomplished practicing artists themselves.

Curated by Sioux Garside and supported by his wife Kay, this exhibition is a celebration of Colin’s life and work, confirming his creative legacy in the same year the National Art School celebrates 100 years of teaching art at the heritage-listed former Darlinghurst Gaol.
