Vicky Browne’s installations often investigate how we understand sound within materials. She is interested in how sound forms our understanding of materials and objects. Her work considers our connection to the cosmos and how our own materiality is directly connected to space and the origin of ourselves (for instance the Big Bang). To explore these ideas, Browne will often use a variety of craft techniques to make works in stain glass and ceramics as well as DIY electronics. These fabrication methods are often relocated and re-contextualised to form new meanings and surprising outcomes. Her work is often kinetic and sometimes interactive, exploring our place within our immediate environment and our connection to the stars. Thus, her installations attempt to immerse the viewer in a macro and micro sense of place. Browne creates this reconstruction of experience, by transforming the gallery space with sculpture, video, light, and sound.

Vicky Browne is an interdisciplinary mixed media artist based in the Blue Mountains, NSW. She completed her Masters of Visual Art at the Sydney College of the Arts in 2010. Browne has exhibited in various group and solo exhibitions, including Artspace, Sydney; Artspace, Auckland, New Zealand; and Dunedin Public Art Gallery, New Zealand. Institutional exhibitions include Living in the Ruins of the Twentieth Century, UTS Gallery, Sydney; Sound Full: Sound in Contemporary Australian and New Zealand Art, City Gallery Wellington, New Zealand; and Material Sound, Murray Art Museum Albury, and the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center, North Carolina, United States. Browne was the winner of the The Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Scholarship both in 2013 and 2014. Her work is currently in the group exhibition Promise The Earth curated by Meryl Ryan and Naomi Riddle, at The Lockup Newcastle until August 2022.
