Donations and Bequests

Support the next generation of leading Australian artists and innovators.

For over 150 years, the National Art School has been the epicentre of fine arts education and a vital contributor to the arts and cultural sector in NSW. Our alumni continue to be some of the most distinguished and notable contemporary artists in the country and are exhibited nationally and internationally.

Through the generosity of philanthropic benefactors, corporate partners, trusts and foundations, the National Art School remains at the forefront of visual arts education in Australia, enabling us to provide a unique and bespoke teaching model under the guidance of leading artists and educators.

Your donation or Bequest will contribute to the development of our studio spaces, library and research centre, as well supporting our community and outreach initiatives, and our high-quality program of public exhibitions and short courses.

To get involved, you can:

  • Make a donation and join as a NAS Patron
  • Make a transformational gift
  • Support a student via a scholarship or award
  • Become a Corporate Partner
  • Make a gift in your Will

The National Art School welcomes support of all levels, and we are delighted to acknowledge donations of $500 and above as part of the NAS Patron Program.

NAS Patrons

NAS Patrons are a group of committed art lovers who support the National Art School’s programs and students via regular annual tax-deductible donations.

The National Art School is a not for profit organisation and funds generated by NAS Patrons provide crucial support towards our academic programs, community and outreach initiatives, and our high-quality program of public exhibitions and short courses.

By way of thanks for their support, NAS Patrons enjoy a close relationship with the National Art School and are invited to connect with our network of high-profile artists and alumni; leading collectors and gallerists; academics; curators; and staff.

Patrons engage in a robust program of specialist events, spanning exhibition previews and openings; curator-led tours; artist talks; visits to artists’ studios; viewings of corporate and private collections; and artists’ parties.

We are also delighted to acknowledge the support of our Patrons by name on the NAS website and in selected print material for the duration of their support.

For information about making a multi-year donation or how you can make a transformational gift in support a specific academic department or program, please contact us.

Scholarships and Awards

NAS Scholarships ensure exceptional talent is nurtured and artistic potential is realised. All National Art School scholarship programs and student prizes are enabled via philanthropic and corporate donations. This support offers students the opportunity to continue their education across both Bachelor of Fine Art and Master of Fine Art students as well as provide valuable professional development opportunities.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss your interest in supporting a student prize or scholarship.

Support the next generation of artists

Bequests are vital to ensure the continuing success of the National Art School. By including the National School in your Will, you will help the next generation of Australian artists to receive an outstanding visual arts education.

Your legacy will help us to develop and maintain first-class studios and learning facilities for NAS students; produce high-quality exhibitions and public programs; deliver outreach programs to engage regional communities; and build and safeguard the NAS Collection and Archive.

Making a Bequest to the National Art School

We strongly recommend that you seek professional advice from a solicitor or financial adviser in arranging your bequest.

Bequests made to the general purposes of the National Art School will be used to advance the School’s core priorities. Should you wish to bequeath a work of art to the National Art School or nominate a specific purpose for your Bequest, we encourage you to contact us to discuss your intentions.

To notify us of your bequest, we invite you to send us a copy of the relevant extract from your Will, or a letter confirming your bequest from a solicitor.

To thank you for your pledge, we look forward to engaging you with the activities of the National Art School, our students and alumni via a program of events and tailored opportunities to suit your personal interests.
