Dobell Drawing Prize #21 Finalists
Wednesday 3 April, 1–2pm, Black Theatre
Hardenvale – our home in Absurdia is a real-scale immersive environment by artists Catherine O’Donnell, Kellie O’Dempsey and Todd Fuller. Through drawing, projection, built form, sound and movement, this collaborative project references the architecture of 1960s Western Sydney housing, as well as a space the group describes as ‘the cultural fringe of Australia’.
Crossing three generations, these artists re-imagine lived domestic settings while expanding the practice of drawing to create an experience that is intimate, unsettling and humorous. Challenging the definition and pushing the boundaries of drawing, Hardenvale brings together O’Donnell’s representational drawing and O’Dempsey’s digital drawing applications alongside Fuller’s hand-drawn animations to conjure an uncanny, yet familiar home.
Please join exhibiting artists Catherine O’Donnell, Kellie O’Dempsey and Todd Fuller for artist talks moderated by NAS Gallery Curator Judith Blackall.
