A rare treat to hear from our oldest alumnus, Guy Warren AM, NAS student 1946-49.

In conversation with From the Mountain to the Sky curator Deborah Beck, Guy will discuss his works in the current exhibition in The Drawing Gallery, his time at art school and his extraordinary life as an artist.

Guy Warren was born in Goulburn in 1921. While working at The Bulletin newspaper from the age of 14, he attended JS Watkins Art School in Sydney. At the age of 20, he enlisted in the army during WW2, serving in New Guinea and Bougainville. After the war, he studied at the National Art School under the Commonwealth Reconstruction Training Scheme before travelling to London where he lived for eight years. On his return to Sydney, he exhibited widely, and won the Archibald Prize in 1985 with a portrait of his sculptor friend and fellow NAS student Bert Flugelman. His outstanding contribution to visual culture in Australia was recognised when he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 1999, a NAS Fellowship in 2011, and a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2013.
