Fiona Foley

Dr Fiona Foley has had two major retrospectives, in 2013 with Andrew Baker Art Dealer and in 2009 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. In 2014 she was the recipient of the Australia Council Visual Arts Laureate Award. Her work is held in collections both nationally and internationally, including the British Museum, London; National Gallery of Australia; Parliament House, Canberra; and state galleries of New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia. She is a founding member of the Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative. Foley simultaneously works as an artist, as a Professor Adjunct at the University of Queensland, and is a Board member of the Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane.

“Our weekly drawing class was only three hours, but we would spend up to 12 hours drawing an avocado seed, a rock or a feather. We could only use a pencil and rubber on a large sheet of paper. Some weeks it was torture.”
