Dobell Drawing School for Year 11 students
Generously supported by the Sir William Dobell Art Foundation since 1997, the Dobell School aims to provide Year 11 Visual Arts students from Government High Schools in regional NSW and outer metropolitan areas a unique and rare opportunity to develop their skills under the guidance of professional practicing artists.
Students will choose from five workshops including Drawing the Nude Life Model, Portrait Drawing, Drawing the Clothed Life Model, Experimental Drawing with the Figure and Objective Drawing, all of which culminate in an exhibition at the National Art School’s Cell Block Theatre in the heart of Darlinghurst.
The 75 Year 11 students nominated for the program are those who are currently undertaking visual art as a subject at their school but who may not have access to the teaching, studios and facilities available at a tertiary art school.
Visual Arts teachers nominate the participating students from Sydney’s metropolitan south-west and western regions, as well as the NSW regions on a rotating basis.
DOBELL REGIONAL TEACHERS’ WORKSHOPS
A Visual Arts project for teachers in regional NSW funded by the Sir William Dobell Art Foundation.
The 2018 Dobell Regional Teachers’ Workshop offers up to 15 places for Visual Arts teachers to engage in a two-day drawing workshop. This is a unique opportunity to work with a practicing artist from the National Art School, Sydney.
The workshops will function on a yearly rotating regional system whereby a different NSW area is targeted each year with classes held at a central location.
Participating Visual Art teachers will engage in five hours a day of intensive professional development in the area of Drawing within the studio-based tradition of the National Art School. Through the Drawing Workshop, a practicing artist from the National Art School will encourage workshop participants to share ideas and debate issues with peers while exploring the technical and conceptual directions of their work.
In 2018 workshops were held in Maitland in May and will be held at the CORRIDOR project Cowra in from Saturday, 17–Sunday, 18 November.
