Course Overview

Take your skills and imagination to the next level with an intensive week in the studio, for students with prior wheel throwing experience. Tania Rollond begins with exercises to hone or refresh your core skills, before moving on to demonstrate techniques for working with larger amounts of clay and assembling multiple pieces. Individual and exploratory approaches are encouraged, with further demonstrations to inspire you to stack, join, carve, or incorporate hand-built elements. The goal for the week is to make a small series of vessels or vases with unique sculptural presence and individual personality.

All clay is provided, and selected pieces will be bisque fired in the NAS kilns after the workshop. We will notify you when they are ready for pick up. Glazing courses are available in other short courses programs.

Lecturer Profile

Tania Rollond makes functional and sculptural ceramics, drawings and prints on paper that reflect on her place in the natural world, and the rural environment where she lives. Rollond holds a Master of Fine Arts (Research) at the University of NSW Art & Design and a Bachelor of Arts (Design) from Curtin University. She studied ceramics at the National Art School, has been a lecturer there since 2004, and has also taught ceramics at University of NSW and Institutes of TAFE. She has been exhibiting regularly since 2001, and her work is held in the collections of the Bendigo Regional Gallery, Shepperton Art Museum, FLICAM Museum in Fuping, China, and many private collections in Australia and internationally.
