Course Overview

Discover the many and varied techniques of monoprinting and learn to how to create unique prints using drawing methods, painterly techniques, layering and the use of small objects, materials and textures, printed on an etching press. Bring a collection of existing images, textures and flat materials that can be used in the printing process. Janet Parker-Smith introduces simple methods such as printing by hand with basic materials, to enable you to continue to make monoprints in your home studio.

*Short courses and weekend workshops are open to students of ages 16 years and over. For students under 16 years of age there are School Holiday Workshops, Art Club and other youth art programs.

Lecturer Profile

Janet Parker-Smith is a Sydney-based artist who works with printmedia, sculpture and altered books. She has been exhibiting nationally and internationally for 30 years. Her work is held by the Art Gallery of NSW, the National Gallery of Victoria and numerous other public collections, as well as private collections. Janet is the Studio Supervisor in Printmedia at Sydney College of the Arts and a casual academic in the Printmedia Department, where she has worked since 2006. Janet is represented by Van Rensberg Galleries in Hong Kong, and supported by both MAY SPACE, where she has had several solo exhibitions, and .M Contemporary in Sydney

Art Materials

10 x sheets of cartridge paper (50 x 70cm)
4 x sheets of rag paper, eg, BFK Reeves, Stonehenge (56 x 76 cm approximately)
Pencil
1 x sheet of heavy weight acetate – approximately 50 x 70 cm
Source material – a good selection of prints, drawings, collages, magazine cut-outs, photographs to draw from. Also, flat materials and objects that can be used for printing – leaves, lace, string, wool.
