This exciting course combines the fundamentals of drawing with an emphasis on developing your powers of observation, improving your technical skills, and the satisfaction of creating original artworks from real-life. Maryanne Wick gives demonstrations in drawing, leads discussions about Australian and international artists, sets group exercises and provides detailed feedback about your work. Â All in a supportive and friendly studio environment.
*Short courses are open to students of ages 16 years and over. For students under 16 years of age there are School Holiday Workshops, Art Club and other youth art programs.
Maryanne Wick is a graduate of the National Art School and is primarily known for her drawing, painting and print making. She has lived and worked in Sydney, London, South Korea, Hong Kong and Spain. Her paintings and drawings are held in private and public collections, both in Australia and overseas. Maryanne has held solo exhibitions in Australia, South Korea and Spain and, as a finalist, participated in group exhibitions that include the Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Doug Moran and Portia Geach Portrait Prizes, the Gallipoli Art Prize and Fisher’s Ghost Art Award. In 2015, she was awarded the Korea-Australia Art Foundation Prize for painting and in 2022, invited to participate in the prestigious Kedumba Drawing Award.
Welcome to ‘Drawing with Confidence’. Have your drawing materials ready to use on the first day of the course.
1 x large piece of brown craft paper
1 x piece of A1 white cartridge paper (your choice of thickness)
A4 size sketch pad, some paper or your working diary
1 x lead pencil (suggest 2B or 4B) or a graphite stick.
Thick charcoal, (suggest Willow, avoid compressed charcoal)
1 x tube of white acrylic paint and a wide paint brush
1 x hard gum eraser and 1 x soft eraser
1 x can of fixative, ozone friendly (optional – for fixing pencil, charcoal, etc)
1 x rag, 1 x roll of white paper masking tape
Wear an Apron/ protective clothing. Covered footwear is essential in all studios on campus.
