About Short Courses

The National Art School’s vibrant program of Short Courses run from January to December every year and cater to students of all levels of experience in the visual arts.

The Short Courses are delivered on-campus in Darlinghurst and online to your home studio.

When you enrol in a Short Course you experience the National Art School’s unique learning environment and studio-based arts education with hands-on tuition and technical and conceptual approaches to learning. You will be taught and inspired by professional artist-educators who share their passion, knowledge and expertise, guiding you towards a personal artistic vision, develop creative thinking, and extend your practice in a friendly, supportive, studio environment.

In the Short Courses you will learn practical skills, gain an understanding of historical and contemporary concepts, and build your confidence to develop a unique visual language and a rewarding art practice.

The annual program includes the Summer and Winter Schools, held in January and July over five days of intensive study; Terms One, Two, Three and Four Short Courses are eight-weeks long and held throughout the academic year from Monday to Saturdays, and the Autumn and Spring Weekend Workshops are held in May and September.

The Short Courses are directed by Dr Ella Dreyfus, Head of Public Programs and Senior Lecturer at the National Art School.
