Jeffrey Samuels

Jeffrey Samuels, a contemporary Aboriginal artist and designer, has
been pivotal to the urban Aboriginal artists’ movement in Australia
through his participation in Koori Art ’84 at Artspace and in Boomalli
Aboriginal Artists Co-operative as a founding member. Samuels
has participated in numerous Boomalli exhibitions, the most recent
being Black Fellas Dreaming, 2018. In 2000 he was commissioned
to recreate a painting for the Opening Ceremony of the 2000
Olympic Games. This same year Samuels designed the State of
NSW ‘waratah’ logo. Major works of his are held in the National
Gallery of Australia; Art Gallery of New South Wales; Flinders
University; Australian Museum, Sydney; and National Museum of
Australia, Canberra.
